As he stepped inside the house it was the usual sight. His stepmother was mopping and cleaning again. He just wanted to wind down and play with his friends, so he went straight to his room. She was standing in front of the desk with a screwdriver in her hand, trying to figure out how to put his PC back together.
She gave him a smile, then kept going.

"Uhmm... now how does this part go in?"
She waved him closer. Every time she cleaned the house she was mostly just wearing that short pink apron over a tight shirt.
"Heeey, don't look so devastated. You're acting like hic~ I broke something."
She was drunk as always. Her breath reeked of strong vodka.
"I was just cleaning your setup. I let this black box soak in hot water first so all the dirt came right off."
She pointed at the graphics card in her hand, then forced it into what was left of the motherboard and jammed it in.
"So much dust came out, you know? Jeez, you should clean it more often. You're so irresponsible."
Talking about responsibility was rich coming from her.
"Now what's next? Ooh, this stick? Card? Sweetie, what's this called? Ram?"
The connectors on the RAM looked like someone had ripped them out without undoing the clips. The sticks were dripping water anyway, so it hardly mattered. She pushed one in, it would not sit right, so she used the screwdriver to pry it back out. It yanked free and hit the floor.
"Woopsies. Did I break it? I'm so hic~ clumsy. Hic~ I think I drank too much today. Sweetie, can you handle this? I tried my best to clean it. Don't let it get dusty again, 'kay?"
She stood there in front of him, waiting, with no idea she had just destroyed a five thousand dollar setup.
